Cheshire have changed their entire side for the game against Shropshire this weekend after one of their players returned a positive coronavirus test.
All 11 players who featured in the 80-run victory at Northumberland last Sunday have been stood down for the National Counties Cricket Association Knockout Trophy Group One match at Toft (11am).
An unnamed Cheshire player tested positive on his return from the north east and is currently self-isolating. He had been in close contact with two other team-mates – a travelling partner and hotel room-mate.
Cheshire alerted the relevant health authorities and also the ECB and NCCA following the news.
It is understood contrasting advice was provided by the numerous health authorities in the county, although some players were cleared to feature this weekend – and will play for their clubs on Saturday.
However, Cheshire Cricket Board have taken the decision to completely change the side in the interests of safety.
That means captain Will Evans, Charlie Lowen, Sam Perry, Rob Sehmi, Dane Williams, Steve Green, Andy Jackson, David Wainwright, Simon Normanton, Michael Finan and Ben Gibbon are all ruled out of the contest as Cheshire attempt to enhance their qualification bid.
Chester Boughton Hall’s Rick Moore, who was Evans’ predecessor, returns to the team to skipper the side after missing the first two games because of club commitments.
Harry Dearden, Alex Money, Luke Robinson, Nick Anderson, Ed Fluck, Adam Worrall, Jack Williams, Danny Cranmer, Chris Sanders and Chris Stenhouse are all drafted into the XI.
Shropshire won their opening group game against Northumberland, but sat out the last round of fixtures.
They are captained by former Glamorgan all-rounder Graham Wagg and have named Worcestershire Academy seamer Mitchell Stanley in their squad for Sunday’s match.
