Crews spent two hours at a Stoke-on-Trent allotments tackling a shed fire – which sent plumes of black smoke into the air.
And it’s believed that a nearby resident not only raised the alarm but even moved some chickens to safety.
A witness told how he could see the smoke from as far as Bucknall China on Werrington Road.
He said: “I could see the smoke and as I got closer it was billowing out over the rooftops.
“Apparently someone helped to move some chickens to safety.”
A spokesman for the fire service: “Firefighters were called at 11.25am this morning to reports of a shed fire at an allotment in Bucknall.
The service confirmed the fire was extinguished by 1.25pm and is believed to be accidental.
