Children are putting their lives at risk by dicing with death at a ‘disused’ quarry.
Staffordshire Police have issued a warning after receiving reports about youngsters running along the roofs of buildings inside the abandoned quarry on Hurst Road, in Biddulph.
Other hazards on the site include old gas canisters and lakes ‘contaminated with chemicals’.
Now Biddulph High School has alerted its pupils to the police concerns.
The school told pupils: “The police have contacted us regarding students setting up bike ramps at the disused quarry on Hurst Road.
“They are putting themselves at high risk as there are old gas cannisters and oil and acid is present. The lakes are also contaminated with chemicals and the old workings are dilapidated and unsafe.
“Some students are running over the roofs of the buildings which is obviously a risk to their safety. Please speak to your child and warn them of the dangers.”
Anyone with any information about children playing in the quarry should call the police on 101.
