‘Collector’s item’ – classy gesture after Stoke City postponement

Reading have made a gesture to their older fans in the wake of their last game against Stoke City falling victim to the Coronavirus crisis.

Their matchday programme was written up, printed and ready to be sold when the game was called off the day before.

But instead of keeping the programmes for the re-arranged game, or simply pulping them, they have decided to distribute them free to their more elderly supporters as a thank you gesture and to relieve an isolation they might be going through

A club spokesman said: “Reading FC had hoped supporters would be leafing through the pages from the stands at Madejski Stadium.

“The football community continue to wait to establish when football might resume and when a re-arranged meeting with the Potters might take place.

“But, although this period in history is not going to be one we want to remember, last Saturday’s edition of the programme will remain something of a collector’s item.”
