Many hair and beauty salons across the country have gradually closed their doors to the public over the past week, as the nature of their work made it difficult to implement social distancing.
The latest Government measures have now enforced those closures where they were not already in place.
Many hair and beauty specialists are now taking to the internet and social media to offer tips on keeping tresses under control in the weeks and months ahead.
The owners of Alchemy, in Leek Road, Milton, have taken to Facebook to ask their customers not to attempt to dye their hair at home.
They said: “We’ve had a lot of clients asking about any temporary measures to help with their roots. Please, please, please don’t box dye your hair. I’m currently in talks with L’Oreal to see if there’s any quick fix alternative you can use at home and I will be back to you shortly.”

Like a number of other salons, they have set up a Facebook group to offer home haircare tips.
Meanwhile Joanne Birch Hemmings, the owner of Concept For Hair, in Poolfield Avenue, Newcastle, is asking clients to share photos of their roots over the coming weeks.
She has posted a Facebook message to customers reminding them that it is not forever, and that seeing them again is just a few hair cuts away.
