The owner of a popular restaurant has teamed up with the UK’s number one competitive eater for a hilarious YouTube video.
Joe Kanauros, who runs Reubens restaurants in Biddulph, Congleton and Whitchurch, met up with Adam Moran, better known as Beard Meats Food, for a challenge that’s not for the faint-hearted.
The Butcher’s Block has been a food challenge at Reubens in Congleton for five years, and competitive eater Adam recently became the third person to demolish the mound of meat.
Adam, from Leeds, is the 13th ranked eater in the world, and holds the UK record for the most McDonald’s Big Macs eaten in one hour. It’s 17 by the way.
In the video, filmed before the UK went into lockdown, the food enthusiast took on:
- Chilli corn
- Creamy mac n cheese
- Barbecue baked beans
- Homemade slaw
- Regular fries
- Sweet potato fries
- Barbecue wings
- Half a rack of babyback ribs
- Jerk chicken
- Short rib
- Southern fried chicken strips
- Pulled brisket
- Smoked pulled pork
- Burnt ends
Joe, aged 32, said: “My friend Sam and I wanted to do a YouTube channel for ages, where we review different burgers and challenges.
“We’ve set up a little studio above the Congleton restaurant where my parents used to live, and set up the Junkfood Junkies YouTube channel.
“When Beard Meats Food sent us a message, we knew we had to do a video – I’d love to get him back for a burger challenge.”
The Butcher’s Block, which roughly contains around 7lbs of meats, costs £40 to attempt – but complete the challenge and you get it for free.
Winners also get a commemorative t-shirt and their name on the wall of fame.
Joe added: “Beard Meats Food is the third person to complete the challenge, but I knew he would. He made light work of it and just got stuck in with his fingers.
“It took him just over 20 minutes and he holds the record for the fastest time – so now he’s the one to beat.
“He was very complimentary about the flavours, and we were chuffed with that. He’s placed it in the top five challenges he’s ever done.”
Each meat in The Butcher’s Block has its own carefully curated rub or sauce to create a flavour sensation.
Joe added: “Everything is cooked from scratch, and it’s really important to us that it all tastes different. It was amazing feedback to get from Beard Meats Food.”
Anyone can take on the challenge at Reubens, so long as they call in advance to warn the chef!
