COVID-19 updates: Confirmed coronavirus cases in Staffordshire rise to seven



The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Staffordshire rose to seven yesterday according to the Department of Health.

Nationally the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 increased 152 to 1,543 with 55 people who had tested positive now confirmed to have died.

The number of cases is likely to be higher, with the health service now only testing for coronavirus in cases that lead to hospitalisation.

One of the deaths was confirmed at Leighton Hospital in Crewe – with two cases now reported in Cheshire East.

At least 52 people are now understood to have recovered from the virus in the UK.

Worldwide there have now been more than 182,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation, across 148 countries and territories.

There have been almost 80,000 recoveries and more than 7,000 deaths.
