Crewe duo hit top form in NSSCL Division Eight win

Crewe ran out nine-wicket winners in their NSSCL Division Eight home clash with Porthill Park fifths.

Porthill Park posted a highly-competitive score of 178-6 on the back of Lucas Heath’s 59 and 28 apiece from Jay Bansal and Nathan Hill.

But Crewe made merry in the sunshine as they knocked off the runs with ease inside 34 overs.

That was largely thanks to Stuart Elsam and Max Gay, who both hit half-centuries.

Elsam finished on 73 not out, which contained 13 fours and one six, while Gay’s unbeaten 65 featured 11 fours and one maximum.

Oakamoor thirds went one better and defeated Woore seconds by 10 wickets.

Elliot Jackson’s 3-24 was backed up by double strikes from Alex Ford and Ollie Carrington as Woore were bowled out for 94.

Lauren Kenvyn struck 20 and Michael Griffiths chipped in with 18.

Oakamoor openers Mikey Edwards (49no) and Ben Harvey (34no) paced themselves in reply as the home side wrapped up the spoils.

Church Eaton seconds made home advantage count to beat Stafford fourths by two wickets.

Stafford reached 160 all out, with Anthony Prinold striking 13 fours and one six in his 53-ball 74.

Tony Milner and Trevor Stewart contributed 21 and 20 respectively, while Edward Matthews scooped 5-35.

Church Eaton were put in a commanding position by Neil Archer (66) and Toby Horton (42).

Iain Atherton (5-18) and Stewart (3-21) led the Stafford fightback, but Church Eaton had enough to get over the line.

· IN Division Nine, Oakamoor fourths beat Meakins fourths by three wickets.

Four wickets apiece from Chris Jones (4-24) and Ben Clarke (4-25) restricted Meakins to a below-par 128 all out.

Shoaib Ali (31) and Alfie Radzins (21) made the most progress with the bat.

Pagan Hardwick took a couple of wickets after tea, but Oakamoor secured the win thanks to Carl Allcock’s 59 not out.

He batted throughout the successful chase, hitting nine fours and one six in his 84-ball knock.
