Clucas should have been basking solely in the glory of his contribution to Stoke’s thumping 5-1 win over Hull.
But instead his joy was severely tempered by the sight of Allen being stretchered from the pitch during the half-time interval and probably being ruled out for the rest of the season and the Euros in the summer.
“I spoke to him a little bit and he’s obviously devastated, as all the players are,” said Clucas.
“We don’t know the full effect or how long he’s going to be out, but it doesn’t look good and it will be a massive, massive loss for us.
“A guy with that much experience and quality is going to be a massive miss.”
Allen was replaced for the start of the second half by debutant Tashan Oakley-Boothe, the deadline-day signing from Tottenham, and he enjoyed the highlight of setting up Stoke’s fifth goal for Nick Powell.
“When somebody gets injured it’s always an opportunity to give somebody else a game,” said Clucas, “and Tashan did well second half when he came in.
“He’s got some big boots to fill, but he’s more than capable.
“He’s been good in training and took his chance second half.
“He’s going to have to keep doing that because we are in a sticky situation at the minute.
