Luton Town goal scorer James Collins has told the media that his side simpled did not deserve the points they snatched at home to Stoke City on Saturday – but believed the result is a sign that the Hatters are back and are in the survival fight.
His stoppage time penalty at Kenilworth Road took two points way from the Potters in their bid to preserve their Championship status for another season and gave Graeme Jones’ side a point that could prove vital come the end of the season.
But it was more than his side deserved, according to his forward, Collins.
“There was a stage in the game where I thought: ‘here we go again’,” he told Dunstable Today .
“I don’t really think we deserved anything from the game, we weren’t at our best, but that’s the sign of a team that’s together and are on the up because two weeks ago we wouldn’t have got a point there and we’d have lost the game.
“Three months ago we wouldn’t have got a point out of it, we’d have lost the game 1-0, we’d have been in there with our heads in our hands.”

He continued: “When you’re away from home, you go 1-0 up and think ‘lets protect it,’ I thought Stoke did that really well for the majority of the game.
“They’ve got experience, they’ve got some good footballers and made it difficult for us.
“They stopped us playing, so I think on the whole they did their job, but we know as a team and as a staff we weren’t at the races.
“It’s a sign of a good team when you’re not playing well and you’re still getting points.”
