‘Disturbing’ scenes at Hanley tower block incident


Police are dealing with an incident at a tower block in Hanley.

Residents who are unable to get into their homes described ‘disturbing’ scenes,.

Police have said they are dealing with “a man in distress”, and have cordoned off Broad Street around the Clayworks development in Smithfield.

Now Clayworks residents have told how they were unable to get back into the £22 million flat block while the officers remain at the scene this morning.

One resident, who only wanted to be named as Grace, said: “It’s really disturbing. It’s affecting a whole lot of people.”

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “An incident on Leonard Coates Way in Hanley this morning has now been resolved.

“It’s after officers were called to a property there at 9.45am following reports of a man in distress. No one was hurt and the man has been left in the care of the ambulance service.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We were called to reports of concern for a patients welfare on Broad Street at 10.09am, we currently have a paramedic officer in attendance at the scene.”
