Stoke-on-Trent is not built around a single centre. Its six towns—Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton—each have their own identity, and food is one of the easiest ways to explore them.
Tunstall
Start in the north of the city with a traditional oatcake. The Visit Stoke directory lists Pittshill Oatcakes and Goldenhill Oatcakes in this part of Stoke-on-Trent. Combine breakfast with a look around Tunstall’s town centre and market.
Burslem
The Mother Town rewards a slower visit. Look for an independent café stop, browse local businesses and take in the distinctive architecture around the town centre. Burslem is also a natural base for exploring the city’s pottery story.
Hanley
Hanley has the widest concentration of city-centre restaurants, cafés and shops. It is a practical lunch stop when visiting The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Regent Theatre or Victoria Hall.
Stoke
The town that gave the city its name is a strong choice for combining food with ceramics heritage. London Road Oatcakes is listed by Visit Stoke, while the former Spode site adds cafés and cultural attractions within walking distance of the station and town centre.
Fenton
Fenton is often passed through, but its neighbourhood businesses deserve attention. Foley Oatcakes is one local name associated with the area. Check current details before travelling, as small food businesses can have limited opening hours.
Longton
Longton offers traditional oatcakes, cafés and pottery heritage. Locketts Oatcakes is listed locally, while the Phoenix Works and Gladstone Pottery Museum help turn a food stop into a fuller day out.
Plan your own route
There is no need to cover all six towns in one day. Choose two neighbouring areas, begin with breakfast or coffee, add one attraction or market, then finish with lunch. That produces a much more relaxed introduction to the city.
