Stoke City last week terminated the contract of club record signing Giannelli Imbula – but the 27-year-old is already poised to join a new club.
The defensive midfielder, who joined the club on deadline day in 2016 for a record-breaking £18.3m, managed only 26 league appearances for the Potters over the three-and-a-half year period, spending most of his time with the club on loan with Lecce, Toulouse and Rayo Vallecano.
Just days earlier, Imbula saw his loan with Lecce terminated after making just three appearances so far this season and his Stoke exit soon followed.
But fresh reports in Italy have now claimed that Imbula is in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Russian side FC Sochi.
He is expected to put pen to paper on a deal that will see him play for the newly promoted Russian Premier League side until the end of the season.
His attitude has, in the past, been questioned with former teammate Glenn Johnson revealing to BBC Sport that Imbula once subbed himself off during a pre-season game after he was not passed the ball.
Sochi would become the former Marseille star’s seventh club of his short career should the deal be completed.
