King’s Lynn: McAuley (foul, 53)

PORT VALE

BROWN: Couldn’t do anything about the goal. Didn’t have a lot to do apart from that  6

CLARK: Did pretty well in a poor team performance. Always looking to drive forward from right back and linked up well with Amoo down that side 6.5

LEGGE: Below his usual standards and like Crookes and Smith, couldn’t stop Marriott in the build up to the goal 5

SMITH: Beaten too easily by Marriott in the build up to the goal. Had one of several Vale half chances when he headed wide at the back post 5

CROOKES:  The left back could perhaps have done more against Marriott in the build up to the winner but, in his defence, was behind the man and wary of giving away a penalty 5

JOYCE: Not at his best but that was true of the midfield as a whole  5

BURGESS: Had a shot blocked and fired over with another effort on a frustrating afternoon 5

CONLON: Set up Amoo for a first half header with a pint-point cross and also tested Mair with  long-range effort from which Worrall’s goal on the rebound was ruled offside 5.5

AMOO: The right winger looked like Vale’s best attacking threat 6.5

POPE: Tested Mair with a first-half header but gave the ball away a couple of times to allow the visitors to break 5

WORRALL: Went close with a fine first half effort and had a second-half strike controversially ruled out for offside 6

SUBS

MCKIRDY: (Conlon, 76): Played on the left of the front three but couldn’t make the difference 5

ROBINSON (Worrall, 85) Thrown on as Vale went 4-2-4 in the closing stages. Not on long enough for a mark.

Not used: Oyeleke, Cullen, Mills, Brisley, Visser.

King’s Lynn: Mair, Barrows, McAuley, Lupano, Brown, Power (Marriott, 68), Clunan, Jarvis, Richards, Loza (Carey, 69), Southwell (Smith, 89).

Subs: Fleming, King, Kelly.
