Gandeys Circus performances cancelled amid coronavirus pandemic


Bosses at Gandeys Circus have taken the decision to cancel its upcoming performances as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

This afternoon, the death toll in the UK rose to 35 after a patient died at Leighton Hospital.

Three venues for the popular circus have been affected – Newcastle-under-Lyme, Knutsford and the Isle of Man. Other advertised venue remain unaffected at this time.

Tonight’s show, at 6.30pm in Newcastle, will be the final performance for several weeks.

Gandeys tour promoter Binky Beaumont said: “We take the health and wellbeing of our customers, artistes and staff very seriously.

“In the light of Government advice, both current and pending, we have taken the decision to cancel our upcoming performances of Gandeys Circus here at Newcastle from tomorrow and at Knutsford and on the Isle Of Man.

“We have sold so many tickets which can be refunded by your point of purchase and the nominated hospice charity will also not receive the much needed opportunity to raise funds.

“We have been bringing productions to the you for more than 100 years and this is not a decision we have taken without serious consideration for our friends and Gandeys family in the area.

“All other advertised venues remain unaffected at this point, we look forward to welcoming you all back soon at our Gandeys shows.”
