PLAYER RATINGS

Nathan Smith in action for Port Vale at Walsall

BROWN: Should have done better with Walsall’s first goal but made amends with a stunning second half save from Adebayo    6

SMITH:  Had a tough task against McDonald but came through it well  6

LEGGE: Bullet header to put Vale in front, plus some vital blocks   7

BRISLEY: Both centre halves did well. Finished the game limping after getting clattered by the keeper while jumping for a corner   7

MONTANO: Another who had a tough task, often against Adebayo wide on the right. Seemed to be off balance so he couldn’t quite get to the cross for the equaliser at 2-2 6

JOYCE: Impressed in the first half but found life tougher after the break as Walsall were able to get at the defence   6

BURGESS:  His goal took a deflection but he shouldn’t care about that. Plenty of energy and that fourth goal of the season  6

CONLON: Sacrificed because Vale were getting overrun in midfield. But he played well in the first half and set up Legge’s opener  6

WORRALL: Started wide right and finished wide left. Never stopped running in either position  7

CULLEN: No lack of effort but looked a bit isolated at times  6

BROWNE:  Couldn’t make much of an impression after doing well in the last couple of games 6

Leon Legge heads Port Vale in front at Walsall

SUBS:

OYELEKE (Conlon, 66): Great to see him back. Just needs game time to get back to his best  6

AMOO (Browne, 64): Helped turn the game back in Vale’s favour with some driving runs 6.5

POPE  (Cullen, 73):  Held the ball up and helped get Vale back in the game just as Walsall were taking over. Seemed to have a strong shout for a penalty when he was held in the area as he tried to meet a cross 6.5

Not used: Maddison, Gibbons, Taylor, Bennett.

Walsall: Rose, Pring, Sadler, Scarr, Kinsella, Holden, Guthrie, Facey, McDonald, Gordon (Lavery, 76), Adebayo.

Subs: Roberts, Clarke, Sinclair, Bates, Nolan, Sheron.
