A major Staffordshire Moorlands road is shut in both directions following what police are describing as a ‘serious’ traffic accident this afternoon (Wednesday February 26).
The crash has taken place on the A523 Ashbourne Road between Bradnop and Bottomhouse and the road is closed in both directions.
The accident involves a lorry and a car, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service.
The road is a key route between Leek and Ashbourne.
Emergency services, including two Midlands Air Ambulance helicopters, remain at the scene.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “The A523 is currently closed whilst officers deal with a serious road traffic collision near the junction with the B5053.
“Please avoid the area.”
Diversions around the closure are in place and the collision investigation unit are currently in attendance.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they had been called to the scene shortly before 4pm.
She said: “We were called at 3:51pm to reports of a collision between a car and lorry on Ashbourne Road in Bottomhouse.
“The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill, three land ambulances. Paramedic officer and a Community First Responder are currently at the scene.”
