Malicious ‘paedophile alert’ letter outs neighbour on Stoke-on-Trent estate

Police are investigating after a letter was pushed through residents’ doors wrongly claiming their neighbour is a ‘paedophile’.

The ‘malicious’ letter has been circulated around the Saddlers Park estate, in Burslem, this week.

The letter pushed through people’s doors states: “Read paedophile alert.”

Staffordshire Police have confirmed that the claim is untrue.

A police spokesman said: “We were called on June 8 to reports of letters about a man being circulated in Burslem. We can confirm that these claims are unsubstantiated and are being classed as malicious.”

The incident has also been reported on the Our Burslem community page.

Group founder June Cartwright said: “This was a malicious letter and police are investigating it. The person named is a very nice person who is really upset. But the person who wrote the letters is a really malicious person and I hope the police find out who wrote them and prosecute whoever it was.”

Anyone who knows the identity of the letter writer should call the police on 101.
