Man, 61, arrested following protest outside Walleys Quarry



Police have today arrested a 61-year-old man following a ‘spontaneous protest’ outside Walleys Quarry.

Staffordshire Police say they were at the scene in Silverdale at 7am today.

The force says officers were in Cemetery Road to ‘limit disruption to the local community and the road network’.

And that a man, from Newcastle, has now been arrested.

A spokeswoman said: “Despite numerous appeals, a protester would not end the blockade and a 61-year-old man, from Newcastle, was arrested on suspicion of using violence or intimidation on a person to stop lawful activity.

“He remains in custody.”
