A man jumped into the Trent and Mersey Canal in a bid to escape police in Stoke-on-Trent last night.
Police were called to reports of a man interfering with vehicles around Whieldon Road, Stoke.
The man jumped into the water in an attempt to get away, and was then involved in a 40 minute stand-off with police before being detained.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Shift 4 Northern Response have this evening detained a man after he was seen interfering with cars in the Whieldon Road area of Stoke.
“The male made off & jumped in a canal where he had a 40 min stand-off with officers. He has now been detained.”
