No further Covid-related deaths in Stoke-on-Trent today (but two die in Staffordshire)


North Staffordshire has recorded another day free of coronavirus deaths.

The figures from Public Health England cover anyone who has passed away within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

There were no recorded deaths in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle and the Moorlands today.

But in Staffordshire County Council’s area as a whole, two people passed away after contracting the virus. One of these casualties lived in Stafford borough.

While in Cheshire East Council’s area, three deaths were recorded on Boxing Day.

This has brought the total Covid-19 death toll since the start of the pandemic to 434 in Stoke-on-Trent, 221 in Newcastle borough, 171 in Staffordshire Moorlands, 208 in Stafford borough, and 503 in Cheshire East.

Across the UK, there have been another 210 deaths recorded today.

Separate data shows there have been no further coronavirus-related deaths reported at hospitals in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

The latest coronavirus deaths as of Boxing Day:

  • Stoke-on-Trent: 434 (no change from Christmas Day)
  • Newcastle borough: 221 (no change from yesterday)
  • Staffordshire Moorlands: 171 (no change from yesterday)
  • Stafford borough: 209 (up one from yesterday)
  • Staffordshire county (all boroughs/districts – excluding Stoke-on-Trent): 1,398 (up two from yesterday)
  • Cheshire East: 503  (up three from yesterday)

Deaths with Covid-19 at local hospital trusts as of Boxing Day:

  • University Hospitals Of North Midlands NHS Trust: 840 (no change from Christmas Day)
  • North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust: 12 (no change from yesterday)
  • Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust: 38  (no change from yesterday)
  • Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 303 (no change from yesterday)
  • East Cheshire NHS Trust: 199 (no change from yesterday).
