Police hunt for balaclava knifeman as street brawl ends in stabbing



Police are hunting a balaclava-clad knifeman after a street brawl ended in a stabbing.

Officers were called to three men fighting in Comet Avenue, Milehouse, at around 1.40pm yesterday (May 3).

Witnesses reported seeing one of the men with a kitchen knife.

The suspect was white, about 5ft 8in tall with a slim build.

He was dressed all in black including a balaclava, gloves and hood. He and another man are reported to have approached the scene from Matilda Grove.

The Cross Heath stabbing came just hours before a young man was knifed by a stranger from behind in a subway near Sainsbury’s in Enderley Street, Newcastle.

The victim – who is in his 20s – suffered a one-inch wound to his back in the horrifying attack at about 7.50pm yesterday.

It is not believed the incidents are linked.

Referring to the Cross Heath incident, a Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for information about a stabbing that took place yesterday in the Cross Heath area.

“The incident occurred at about 1.40pm when there were reports of three men fighting on Comet Avenue.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious, should get in touch.”
