Police hunting ‘large group of youths’ after Stoke-on-Trent social club torched


Police are hunting for a ‘large group of youths’ after a former social club was deliberately set alight.

Firefighters were called to the one-time Holden Lane Working Men’s Club, in Sneyd Green, at around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has told StokeonTrentLive that the blaze is being treated as deliberate.

Now Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: “It is believed that a large group of youths have deliberately ignited the fire, which is being treated as arson.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The fire service had sent four engines to the scene – from stations including Hanley, Longton and Burslem. In addition the aerial ladder platform also attended. A spokesman for the fire service said: “Six breathing apparatus wearers used offensive tactics to tackle the fire which started on the first floor.”
