Police investigate after yobs start fire by busy railway lines



Police officers are investigating after yobs are believed to have started a fire by a busy railway line.

Firefighters from Alsager were called to Lake View, off Hall Drive, shortly after 7pm yesterday (May 27).

The fire is said to have been in the open beside the railway line.

Cheshire Police officers have now taken over the investigation.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At around 7.10pm firefighters were notified of a fire in the open in Lake View, Alsager.

“On arrival the crew discovered numerous fires involving bracken and undergrowth near to a railway line.

“Firefighters extinguished the fires with a hose reel jet and were in attendance for more than half-an-hour.

“It is believed that the fires were started deliberately.”
