Police officers have issued a warning to families after two men were spotted claiming to be from ‘Western Power’ asking about smart metres.
At around 8am yesterday (January 12) the two men attended a house in Old Butt Lane, Butt Lane, saying they were going to fit the metre.
The homeowner said they were unaware of any appointment and had not received a phone call or letter from Western Power Distribution.
Once the men left the resident called the company who confirmed no one had been sent to the property.
Police officers are now warning families to remain vigilant.
PCSO Colin Stepney from Staffordshire Police said: “Please be aware of anyone calling at your home address indicating that they need to carry out any work which you are not aware of, check their identity and contact the service company using a trusted contact number (not one the caller gives you) to verify their identity.
“With the current lockdown it is less likely that companies will visit residential addresses.”
Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
