Police kick door down to arrest man after Stoke-on-Trent convenience store robbery


Police kicked down a door to arrest a 31-year-old man following a raid on a convenience store.

Officers were called to Northwood Stores, in Myatt Street, to reports of a robbery at around 9.20am today.

A man had allegedly entered the shop brandishing a metal pole before taking cash from the Northwood shop.

An investigation led officers to a nearby address but a man refused to open the door.

Police then forced entry before detaining the suspect who is now being questioned in custody.

An appeal for witnesses has also been launched.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.20am to Northwood Stores in Northwood following reports of a robbery.

“Officers attended and the victim reported a man entering the store and brandishing a metal pole before taking a small quantity of notes from the till and leaving on foot.

“A 31-year-old man from Hanley was arrested a short time later on suspicion of robbery.

“He remains in police custody.”

Northwood Stores declined to comment when approached by StokeonTrentLive.
