Port Vale taking advice about precautions against coronavirus

Port Vale are taking advice about what precautions they should take against coronavirus.

Vale are speaking to their club doctor so will see, for example, if they should follow the examples of Newcastle and West Ham who have banned handshakes at their training ground.

Manager John Askey said the squad, just like other workers up and down the country, would look to take sensible precautions: “We are just speaking to the doctor today to see what he advises. Everybody has to be guarded. Whether you are a footballer or in a factory, everybody has to be on their guard and take advice from people who know.”

NHS advice on how to avoid catching or spreading germs is

• cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

• put used tissues in the bin immediately

• wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

• try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
