Revolted Bentilee mum: ‘I’ve got the whole street’s poo floating in my garden!’

A mum has spoken of disgust after her garden was left covered in floating human poo.

Support worker Joanne Colclough stepped into her garden in Bentilee for a smoke only to be hit with the stench of faeces and the horrifying sight of buoyant excrement.

The 48-year-old, of Dawlish Drive, quickly called Severn Trent on Monday who told her they’d be out that night.

But after two days off work – despite not missing a single day throughout the pandemic – Joanne is at the end of her tether waiting for the water company to act.

She is now hopeful that workers will come to fix the issue later today.

And after StokeonTrentLive flagged up the issue with Severn Trent, Joanne has received an apology for the unacceptable delay in addressing the issue.

Floating waste in Joanne’s garden

Joanne said: “I’ve got the main manhole in my garden for the whole area. I lifted it up and it was blocked and all the street’s excrement was coming up my drain into my garden.

“Severn Trent said they’d be out by 10pm, but nobody came.

“They told me they’d be back on Tuesday but were busy due to all the rain and floods they’d had during the wet weather.

“I was then told they couldn’t get access which was a cock and bull story as I’d waited in the whole time.

“I’ve now been told that they will be back this Wednesday afternoon. But I can’t take anymore time off work.”

Joanne added: “I’m devastated because people’s lives depend on my work and I haven’t had a day off during the pandemic. I’ve never taken a day off sick.

“We’ve had a bit of rain so it doesn’t smell so bad now.

“But on Monday it absolutely stank. You could smell the stench of human faeces. I could see it floating in the garden. It made me gag.”

Severn Trent confirmed it was due to send workers out later today.

Joanne’s blocked manhole usually takes waste for the whole area through it without issue

A spokesman said: “We’re sending a team out today to investigate reports of a blockage as a matter of urgency and return everything back to normal for the customer.

“We fully understand how devastating any type of flooding can be, and we can’t apologise enough for the distress this has caused.”
