Sheffield United striker boost and Rhys Norrington-Davies update vs Stoke City

Rhys Norrington-Davies will not be available to run out against his old side Stoke City this weekend.

Norrington-Davies showed glimpses of his potential during a half-season loan under Michael O’Neill last season.

But the 22-year-old defender returned to Sheffield United in the summer, hoping to make a breakthrough at his parent club this time around.

He has made nine appearances as he competes for selection with Enda Stevens but pulled out of Wales international duty with injury.

Sheff Utd boss Slavisa Jokanovic has now confirmed that he is yet to return to full training and will not feature on Saturday against Stoke at Bramall Lane.

George Baldock is still out as well as Oliver Burke, Luke Freeman and £20million midfielder Sander Berge.

Jokanovic said in his press conference on Thursday morning: “Sander won’t be available. He needs more time. Last time he stopped and started and now he we need to stop one time more. We will see what happens. It’s not the first time.”

He will, however, have a full compliment of strikers.

“All of them are fully fit and working during this break, they are ready for selection,” he said.

“I need to see an impact from all the team. It’s not a question of one player or two players, the whole team has not started at the level and there exists a gap for improvement for all the team.”

He added on record signing Rhian Brewster: “He is one of the most talented English players but he needs to grow up more.

“You ask about the strikers earlier we are trying to find a balance and we play him number 10 or as a winger. They are all looking to be on the pitch. He needs to find the capacity to adapt to a different role and we can see what type of progress we can make.”
