Michael O’Neill says Stoke City fans know more than him… about the club.

The Stoke boss says he happily defers to their greater knowledge when it comes to the history and tradition of their club.

And O’Neill says he is always taking a temperature of supporter feeling – and why they might be upset – because his task is to keep them happy.

“I’m here 22 games, but supporters have been watching Stoke City for a lifetime, so they know a lot more about Stoke City than I do,” said O’Neill as he reflected on the recent  Fan Forum at the bet365 Stadium.

‘I think I’ve had coronavirus’, reveals Stoke City legend

Stoke City legend Denis Smith believes he has already been struck down by coronavirus.

He says it was an unpleasant experience that lasted a fortnight and was characterised by a severe and incessant cough.

But the 72 year-old is now back to full health after being laid low by illness in February.

“I didn’t realise it at the time, didn’t make the connection,” he says, “but if it wasn’t coronavirus then it was its twin brother because I had all the symptoms.

“It also lasted two weeks, as they said, and although there wasn’t any pain as such, it was very irritating.

“I would describe it as a very unpleasant experience.”

‘Scaremongering’ – Why Stoke City fans are not worried about stark cash prediction

Stoke City fans are not worried by a table that graphically illustrates the club’s huge outgoings in Championship terms.

Last week the EFL announced a £50m package – divided between owed money and a loan pot – to help its clubs weather the storm provoked by the coronavirus crisis.

But finance expert Kieran Magiure warns the money will last Stoke – a club underpinned by the Coates family via their bet365 empire – as little as nine days because of its current expenditure.
