Joe Allen is back in full swing as he gets set to lead Wales’ European Championships charge.
Allen expected to miss this tournament after rupturing an Achilles tendon in March last year – only for the pandemic to then lead to the competition being postponed for 12 months.
The 31-year-old Stoke City midfielder returned to action in December and was finding his feet and form when he suffered calf and hamstring injuries on international duty in March.
He was ruled out for the rest of Stoke’s season but has battled back to be ready for Wales, joining in a training camp last month to prove he was ready.

He will go up against Xherdan Shaqiri’s Switzerland in Baku on Saturday (2pm) before group stage fixtures against Turkey on Wednesday (5pm) and Italy next Saturday (5pm).
Allen said: “I was always confident I would have enough time to get things right.
“It’s not ideal preparation but thankfully I have had great help both here with the Welsh staff and at Stoke City. I am in a good place physically and ready to go.”
