Stoke City team news as Michael O’Neill makes key change for Coventry City clash

Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill has made four changes for their Championship clash against Coventry City.

The Potters are chasing a first victory in three outings against the Sky Blues following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Preston North End.

That goalless draw was Stoke’s eighth of the campaign, further highlighting the need for increased firepower in the summer transfer window, with a long-term injury to key marksman Tyrese Campbell proving to be a turning point in the season.

O’Neill’s side come into the match 12th in the standings and marooned in mid-table ahead of kick-off bit face a Coventry with plenty to play for.

With that in mind, Stoke have made four alterations to their XI from the weekend.

Harry Souttar is replaced by Danny Batth at the heart of the defence following his red card against Preston, whilst Angus Gunn replaces Adam Davies in goal.

John Obi Mikel drops out of midfield for Jordan Thompson, whilst Jacob Brown replaces Steven Fletcher in attack.

Coventry come into the match having won three of their last five matches which has lifted them up to 18th and clear of immediate relegation trouble.

A 2-0 home win over play-off chasing Barnsley secured back-to-back wins, having also triumphed 1-0 against Rotherham United three days earlier.

The two sides played out a 0-0 draw earlier in the campaign at St Andrew’s.

Stoke XI: Davies; Chester, Batth, Norrington-Davies; Smith, Clucas, Thompson, Powell, Tymon; Brown, Norton.

Substitutes: Davies, Jones, Vokes, Fletcher, Cousins, Mikel, Coates, Matondo, Taylor.
