Stoke City’s pressing game wins praise from former Huddersfield Town boss

Former Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley hailed Stoke City’s pressing game after their victory over the Terriers.

The Potters edged a seven-goal thriller against Huddersfield thanks to a brace from Tyrese Campbell, Richard Stearman’s own goal and a Sam Clucas strike.

The win left Michael O’Neill’s side seventh in the Championship ahead of Tuesday’s home clash with leaders Norwich City.

Speaking on Quest’s EFL highlighted show on Saturday night, Cowley was impressed with what he saw from O’Neill’s side.

“Stoke will be very pleased with the win and their performance,” said Cowley, who was sacked by Huddersfield at the end of last season despite keeping the Terriers in the division.

“I think they pressed the ball very well. They worked ever so hard at pressing and turning the ball over high up the pitch.”

On his former club, Cowley added: “I think Huddersfield’s performance was erratic, with some good moments going forward, but they’ll be disappointed defensively.”
