Frustrated families have blasted the ‘selfish buffoons’ for ignoring lockdown rules after both Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire were dumped in the toughest restrictions.
Hundreds of StokeonTrentLive readers have aired their views after the Tier 3 news broke yesterday morning.
While most expected the city to be in the ‘very high alert’ category, residents in Staffordshire where there is greater regional variation were shocked at the decision.
Now there are calls for the ‘covidiots’ and ‘coronavirus denier’ to ‘do the right thing’ so both areas can see the restrictions eased as soon as possible.
John Walters was among those to blame the lockdown rule-breakers.
He said: “Well done to all the selfish buffoons who won’t follow the simple rules and help to bring the rate down. I hope you’re all pleased with yourselves now that we are in the highest tier.”
Samuel Brotherton echoed those thoughts, saying: “All it needs is the muppets out there to take it seriously. They think it’s a joke, even when people have lost family members. It’s plain selfish.”
John Boulton added: If the idiots would follow the rules we would not be in Tier 3.
“There are too many carrying on as if the pandemic had never happened and then when it does hit it is everyone else’s fault.
“People need to take responsibility for their own actions.”
And Angela Evans said: “We just need people to really be selfless instead of selfish.
“You know what’s required by law – use the face shield or masks, wash your hands, don’t touch anyone and keep a distance.
“It’s time people just thought a little of others instead of themselves. Come on Stokies, let’s beat this.”
Others believe December 2 is too soon to lift the national lockdown.

Elaine Matthews Peart said: “The whole of all of this is appalling, Borris has lost the plot.
“We came out of the first lockdown too soon and then the second lockdown was truly a farce, it makes my blood boil.
“The second lockdown should have been earlier.
“The biggest laugh of all is apparently five days over Christmas we can mix so Covid0-19 can’t spread then. It’s total rubbish.”
Liz Paulukiewicz also pleaded with people to follow the rules.
She said: “It’s not too much to ask, we have to beat this illness and we won’t if everyone does not follow the guidelines.
“People think it will just disappear,it won’t. It’s here and here to stay until we are all vaccinated against it. It will still be there then, but we will be protected.”
Tony Sutton added: “I wish the restrictions were stronger then the tier 3 system and remain in place over Christmas. We need to beat the virus.”
