Stranger runs up and stabs young man in back in Sainsbury’s subway attack



Police are hunting a knifeman who ran up behind a young man before stabbing him in the back in a subway.

The victim – who is in his 20s – was walking through the underpass near Sainsbury’s in Enderley Street, Newcastle, when a stranger approached from behind.

He suffered a one-inch wound to his back in the horrifying attack.

Paramedics called to the scene then alerted the police at about 7.50pm yesterday.

Now officers are urging witnesses to come forward.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for information over a stabbing that occurred in Newcastle yesterday evening.

“Officers attended the scene at the underpass near Sainsbury’s after being informed of the incident by West Midlands Ambulance Service at about 7.50pm.

“The victim reported an unknown person running up behind them, when he received a one-inch wound to his back.

“Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious, is urged to get in touch.”
