The UK’s top staycation is located just an hour away from Stoke-on-Trent.
Hathersage, a village in the Peak District, came out on top of HomeToGo’s ranking of villages in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Beauty across the United Kingdom.
The village was praised for its number of pubs, warmth, and scenery.
DerbyshireLive reports the village scored maximum points in two of the six categories used to create the list, beating beauty spots in the Lake District and Cornwall.
Each location was given a score out of 10 in warmth, pubs, outdoor activities, scenery, availability and price.
Hathersage – just a one hour 17 minute drive from Hanley – scooped a perfect score for both pubs and outdoor activities.
Of all the locations listed it was found to have both highest number of pubs, and the most outdoor trails or lakes.
The website gave a special nod to the great food and local ales at the Plough Inn, which is recommended by The Good Pub Guide.
HomeToGo’s website also says: “This Hope Valley village boasts a heated outdoor pool with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, perfect for relaxing after a day on the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail or climbing at Stanage Edge.”
Another Peak District village also appeared in the top 10, with Castleton coming in at number eight.
Castleton scored a perfect scenic score, after it was found to be the backdrop of the highest number of photos posted on the website Flickr.
